Bartending School FAQs

  • Q. Do I have to 21 years old to go to bartending school?
    A. You may bartend in Massachusetts and Rhode Island as long as you are at least 18 years old.
  • Q. Do I need a high school diploma or GED to be a bartender?
    A. No. No special educational background is needed. Since we teach with a hands on learning approach, people from all different backgrounds and learning style do well at the Professional School of Bartending.
  • Q. Will I use real alcohol?
    A. No. At the Professional School of Bartending, we have filled the actual empty liquor bottles with simulated alcohol. This way you become familiar with the different bottles and brands, which increases your efficiency and speed when you start your new bartending career.
  • Q. How will I know if the drinks taste right?
    A. Flavor profiles of the various spirits are discussed and for the first part of the program; all drinks are measured to ensure consistency.
  • Q. If I have to miss a class, can I make it up?
    A. Don't worry, flexible schedules can be arranged. The Professional School of Bartending course is also designed so that each lesson is unique. Since we offer classes six days a week and four nights, there is plenty of opportunity for you to make it up. You won't fall behind if you miss a class.
  • Q. What will happen if I can't learn it all during the program I signed up for?
    A. The Professional School of Bartending has an open door policy. Since we specialize in adult education we know that people have many responsibilities in their lives other than school. We also understand that people learn at different rates. We respect that. Therefore you may come and practice and repeat as many bartending classes as you like at no charge. The more professional and confident you look the better you represent us.
  • Q. How soon after I graduate can I get a job and will the school help me?
    A. It will depend a lot on your motivation. Some students have bartending jobs in place before they start the Professional School of Bartending program. Others start looking while still enrolled in the school. You are eligible for our free, lifetime bartending job placement assistance in MA (Massachusetts) and RI (Rhode Island) once you graduate. We cannot guarantee employment because we are not hiring you, but we do believe that everyone who wants to work is working.
